The First Teaser Trailer for the New John Wick Movie, Caine, has been Released
The John Wick universe continues to grow with spin-off stories following the main series. This time, the focus is on Caine, the blind assassin who captured audiences’ attention in the fourth film. Donnie Yen’s involvement in the project, both as lead actor and director, could transform this spin-off from simply a new John Wick film into a more personal and stylish action experiment.
Caine Takes the John Wick Universe in a New Direction
The Caine film will center on the story of the character introduced to the series in John Wick: Chapter 4. Caine, played by Donnie Yen, was introduced as a dangerous assassin who previously worked for the High Table but is drawn back into this world to protect his daughter. The character’s calm yet deadly nature has made him one of the most memorable new names in the series.
The first teaser images released indicate that the film is now in production. Donnie Yen’s “Here we go…” post on social media was one of the first signs confirming this. While an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, the fact that production is now actively progressing makes a 2027 release quite likely.
On the story side, Caine’s past, as well as the events after Chapter 4, are expected to be significant. The return of Akira, played by Rina Sawayama, is particularly noteworthy. Akira holds Caine responsible for the death of her father, Shimazu Koji, and this revenge plot seems likely to carry the emotional tension of the film. Therefore, personal vendettas could play a strong role alongside the action.
Chad Stahelski, the creator of the John Wick series, previously stated that this spin-off will not focus on Keanu Reeves’ character. According to him, Caine will be more of a tribute to kung fu cinema, aiming for a different action style that carries the spirit of names like Chow Yun-fat, John Woo, and Wong Kar-wai. This could make Caine a familiar yet unique project with his own identity within the John Wick universe.
