Sam Neill, who passed away on July 13th at the age of 78, added one last major production to his career. Known for unforgettable projects like Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders, it has been revealed that the actor completed scenes for Nintendo’s live-action adaptation of the beloved series, The Legend of Zelda. While details of his role haven’t been revealed, this could be Neill’s final performance.

What Character Will Sam Neill Play in the Zelda Film?

According to new information, Sam Neill played a character whose identity has been kept secret in The Legend of Zelda, filming of which was completed in April. The production team hasn’t given any clues about the actor’s role or his importance in the story. Therefore, it is currently unknown whether Neill played one of the familiar characters from the world of Hyrule or a new character being prepared for the film.

The film’s cast is growing larger. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will reprise his role as Link, the hero of Hyrule, while Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda. Dichen Lachman has been confirmed as Impa, Zelda’s advisor. Yvonne Strahovski has also joined the cast, but her character, like Sam Neill’s, has not yet been revealed.

Recently, another key casting choice was announced: Australian actor Uli Latukefu will play Ganondorf. This means that many of the series’ core characters—Link, Zelda, Impa, and Ganondorf—have been cast. The fact that Neill’s role is being kept secret inevitably suggests he might appear in a surprise role in the story.

The Legend of Zelda is scheduled for release on April 30, 2027. The date was previously announced as May 7th but was later moved forward by a week. Sam Neill’s completion of filming means fans may see him on the big screen for the last time.
