The most played games on Xbox and PlayStation in 2025 have been announced
Throughout 2025, many noteworthy new games were released, both AAA and independent. Titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, in particular, generated significant buzz, with some even dominating award season. However, despite all these new releases, a significant portion of gamers still preferred to spend their time on familiar and established titles. New data clearly reveals this trend.
Unchanging Gaming Habits on Xbox and PlayStation
According to the shared information, the top five most played games on PlayStation in 2025 were Fortnite, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto V, Roblox, and Minecraft, in that order. Interestingly, this list maintained the exact same order as in 2024.
The situation isn’t much different on the Xbox front. The most played games still consist of the same five titles; only Roblox and Minecraft swap places. This once again highlights the dominant influence of live service games on player time.
Industry analyst Mat Piscatella, who shared the data, emphasizes that the list has remained almost constant for a long time. This chart, based on Circana’s player engagement data, shows that even if new games achieve sales success, they struggle to compete with the old giants in terms of daily playtime.
The biggest question for next year is Grand Theft Auto VI. If it’s released as planned, it won’t be surprising if it significantly changes the balance in the 2026 rankings. However, the 2025 data clearly shows that player habits remain quite “established” for now.
