The Release Window for Horizon Steel Frontiers has Become Clearer
Horizon Steel Frontiers has been one of the most anticipated projects since its initial announcement, due to its potential to bring the Horizon universe to an MMO format. Developed by NCSoft for PC and mobile, the game aims to take the series’ machine-hunting feel to a larger-scale, multiplayer experience. While the initial presentation suggested a near release, a new investor presentation revealed that players will have to wait a little longer for this adventure.
Horizon Steel Frontiers Delayed to 2027
According to information shared in NCSoft’s investor presentation, Horizon Steel Frontiers will be released in the first half of 2027. The company did not share a clear reason for this schedule change. However, the game schedule slide shows that titles like Lineage Classics, Limit Zero Breakers, Cinder City, and Time Takers are positioned for 2026; while Horizon Steel Frontiers, along with projects like Bonfire, Defect, and Astrae Oratio, has been pushed to 2027 and beyond.
The game is being developed as an MMORPG set in the Horizon universe. Players will step into the Deadlands region, filled with machine hunters, and engage in a more social, larger-scale battle against the series’ familiar mechanical creatures. This structure could offer a different experience with a party system and large-scale events while maintaining the atmosphere of the single-player Horizon games.
One of the most striking aspects of Horizon Steel Frontiers will be the group battles against giant machines. Players will be able to form teams to fight against massive creatures and participate in large-scale raid content. Furthermore, the promise of a customizable combat system and greater player freedom suggests the game is trying to add a Horizon flavor to the classic MMO formula.
This delay might be somewhat frustrating for those waiting for the game; especially since the initial announcement suggested a much closer release. However, making a strong start in the MMO genre isn’t easy. If NCSoft uses this extra time to better establish the world, combat system, and multiplayer structure, Horizon Steel Frontiers could be one of the most unique and interesting spin-off projects in the series by 2027.
