The Odyssey Clearly Shows Christopher Nolan’s Signature
Speaking about The Odyssey, Tom Holland describes the film as a “true masterpiece,” stating that he says this independently of his own performance. Holland’s most striking point is the film’s unconventional visual approach. The actor says that while watching some scenes, he found it difficult to understand how they were actually filmed, and that he hasn’t felt that way in a long time.
The key point here is Nolan’s approach. It’s noted that the director preferred to use practical effects as much as possible in this project. While a large portion of big-budget films today rely on CGI, Nolan’s preference for physically setting up scenes could take The Odyssey to a different level. Holland’s statement, “This must be computer-generated,” followed by learning it was real footage, clearly demonstrates the meticulous planning of the scenes.
Another point the actor touched upon was the set environment and crew dynamics. Matt Damon’s leadership on set was one detail that particularly caught Holland’s attention. In a large and demanding production, the lead actor’s ability to manage the process in this way directly impacts the overall motivation of the team.
