Vin Diesel’s Role in Ark 2 was Originally Planned Differently
Studio Wildcard’s long-awaited Ark 2 has frequently been in the news due to delays over the years. First announced in 2020 and initially planned for release in 2022, the game is now targeted for a much later date. During this time, one of the most talked-about aspects of the game has been Vin Diesel’s role in the project.
Character Rewritten for Vin Diesel
In an interview with Studio Wildcard founders Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak, it was revealed that the Santiago character in Ark 2 was originally designed differently. The developers stated that the first version of the character was written more as a “nerd,” but this idea changed after collaborating with Vin Diesel began.
According to Stieglitz, the team wanted to create a character more suited to Diesel’s energy and acting persona. Therefore, Santiago’s backstory and personality were rewritten. In the final version, the character remains a tech-savvy figure, while also being physically stronger and more charismatic.
Vin Diesel’s role in the project wasn’t limited to acting. The studio gave him the title of “Head of Creative Convergence.” It’s noted that Diesel particularly collaborated with the team on the character’s story and the game’s narrative structure.
However, Diesel’s performance in the game hasn’t been fully documented yet. The studio stated that he has only done some short voiceovers for some promotional videos, Ark: Genesis 2, and the upcoming animated series. While Ark 2 is currently under development with a 2028 release target, the final scope of Diesel’s role in the game is still unclear.
