John Blanche Was a Name That Shaped the Warhammer World
John Blanche’s death was announced by his close circle. The 77-year-old artist played a decisive role in the visual side of many universes, from Warhammer Fantasy Battle to Necromunda, from Warhammer 40K to various tabletop projects. His artistic vision played a major role in the dark, intense, and chaotic atmosphere that comes to mind when Warhammer 40K is mentioned.
Blanche worked with Games Workshop from 1977 to 2023, creating some of the most iconic visuals in Warhammer history. His Black Templars diorama, Sisters of Battle artwork, Tech-Priest designs, Necron interpretations, and battlefield compositions are among the works etched into the series’ memory. His style eventually became known among fans as “Blanchitsu.”
One of the artist’s best-known works is his depiction of the Emperor on the Golden Throne. This image has become one of the most powerful symbols in the Warhammer 40K universe.
