Warner Bros. Isn’t Changing Its Mind on the Netflix Sale

The sale of Warner Bros. Discovery to Netflix has already erupted into a new crisis. While Paramount’s surprise and “hostile” offer resonated heavily throughout the industry, company management made it clear that this move would not impact existing plans. In messages to shareholders, Warner Bros. emphasized that the agreement with Netflix remains a priority.

Warner Bros. Management Commits to Netflix Deal

Paramount CEO David Ellison’s announcement abruptly changed the course of the process. Paramount announced a cash offer of $30 per share for all of Warner Bros. Discovery. While this amount was higher than Netflix’s $27.75 offer for just the Warner Bros. entity, it was not the deciding factor for company management.

Warner Bros. Discovery officially confirmed Paramount’s offer, describing it as “unsolicited.” While the board stated that the offer would be considered within the scope of the existing Netflix agreement, it made clear that the recommendation previously made to shareholders remains unchanged. This demonstrates that the agreement reached with Netflix remains the primary plan.

The company’s statement stated that the board will evaluate the process in conjunction with independent financial and legal advisors. It was also announced that the final recommendation on the Paramount offer will be presented to shareholders within 10 business days. Investors were urged not to take any action during this period.

Amidst all this uncertainty, one of the most pressing issues is the future of Warner Bros. Games. A potential change of ownership could directly impact projects at studios like Rocksteady, NetherRealm, and TT Games. For now, the picture is clear: Despite pressure from Paramount, Warner Bros. management remains behind the Netflix agreement and appears to have changed course regarding the sale process.
