When Will Aliens vs. Predator 3 Be Released?
As the possibility of an Aliens vs. Predator 3 resurfaces, director Dan Trachtenberg’s recent statements paint a compelling picture of the franchise’s future. Trachtenberg states that it’s still too early to discuss merging the two universes, emphasizing that story elements need to mature naturally. With renewed anticipation following Predator: Badlands, the question of when the Alien and Predator worlds will intersect remains a mystery. The director’s cautious approach keeps expectations balanced.
No Firm Date for Aliens vs. Predator 3, But the Door Is Open
Speaking to The Direct, Dan Trachtenberg confirms that no official talks have yet been held for Aliens vs. Predator 3. Sources indicate that the director cannot rush such a massive project, which would bring together two massive franchises. Trachtenberg states, “The universe has to mature first,” and that they are waiting for the characters and mythology to develop naturally.
While Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands didn’t feature a Xenomorph, it referenced the Alien universe with the Weyland-Yutani synth character. Sources say the director deliberately chose this approach. He says he wanted to gradually build the connection between the two universes by featuring a Yautja-synth relationship instead of a human character. This is considered a strategy that could pave the way for a future crossover.
Trachtenberg states that not only the creative community but also the studios are waiting for the right time to launch a potential Aliens vs. Predator 3. Sources say Disney is cautious about brand integrity, while 20th Century is aware of the potential. Therefore, the financial success of the new film, the performance of Badlands, and interest in the series will be critical determinants.
Trachtenberg emphasizes that there are many Predator ideas in the pipeline, but that a crossover will only happen when the right conditions are met. Sources indicate that, given current statements, an official announcement of Aliens vs. Predator 3 is not even close. This suggests the potential film could be on the agenda sometime between 2027 and 2028 at the earliest. For now, the only certainty is that the director hasn’t closed the door on the project.
