Xbox Console Sales Increased by 86 Percent in June
Xbox consoles saw renewed activity in June after a challenging few months in the hardware market. Recent sales data from the US shows a significant increase in demand for Microsoft’s current consoles compared to the same period last year. However, it is thought that this increase may be due not only to strengthening consumer interest but also to the previous year’s low sales floor and upcoming price changes.
Xbox Console Sales See Strong Jump in June
According to Circana data, which tracks the US market, unit sales of Xbox consoles increased by 86 percent in June compared to the same period last year. Revenue from hardware more than doubled. Thus, June became the strongest sales month for Xbox so far in 2026. A 13 percent increase in the average selling price of consoles also supported the revenue increase.
Several factors are behind the increase. The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025 significantly impacted sales of competing consoles. Therefore, the current increase is compared to the results of the previous year, which was quite weak. The fact that gamers may have rushed to buy consoles before the expected price increase in August could also have accelerated sales.
Despite strong growth, Xbox remained third in the US market in June in terms of both sales volume and revenue. Nintendo Switch 2 maintained its lead in both categories, while PlayStation came in second. PlayStation hardware spending fell 19% year-on-year, but it still managed to stay ahead of Xbox. This shows that while Microsoft is experiencing growth, it is still trailing its competitors in terms of market share.
Total gaming hardware spending in the US fell 62% year-on-year to $383 million. The main reason for this sharp decline was the record $1 billion in June hardware spending last year, driven by the Switch 2 release. While Xbox’s sales recovery looks positive considering overall market conditions, whether this will translate into a sustained increase will become clear with the data to be released in the coming months.
