Xbox One’s 12-Year Unbeaten Run Comes to an End
Released in 2013, the Xbox One was for a long time one of the consoles that stood out in the gaming world for its security. Microsoft, while designing the system’s architecture, established a very strict security structure, especially against piracy and hardware attacks. Therefore, the console continued for years without experiencing a major breach similar to the Reset Glitch Hack experienced by its predecessor, the Xbox 360. However, it seems that this long period of security for the Xbox One may now be over.
Bliss Hack Method for Xbox One Introduced
At the RE/verse 2026 conference, security researcher Markus “Doom” Gaasedelen introduced a new hack method he developed for the Xbox One. This method, called “Bliss,” utilizes a technique known as Voltage Glitch Hacking. The researcher demonstrated that he managed to bypass the console’s security systems using this method.
The technique relies on a highly precise intervention. Gaasedelen managed to bypass one of the system’s critical security checks by creating a very brief voltage drop in the processor’s voltage line. This process actually requires two separate voltage interventions with millisecond timing. This intervention, executed at the right moment, can prevent the console’s memory protection system from activating.
This makes it possible to execute unsigned code on the system. According to the demo shown by the researcher, access to critical layers such as the operating system, hypervisor, and security processor on the Xbox One is possible. This theoretically means that games, firmware files, and system components can be deciphered.
One of the most striking points is that this vulnerability is at the hardware level. According to Gaasedelen, since the attack directly targets the boot ROM layer inside the processor, it does not seem possible to fix it with software updates. This suggests that this method developed for the Xbox One could represent a permanent security breach.
For now, it is unknown whether this hack method will be widely used. However, some developers believe it could open a significant door, especially for game archiving and emulation projects. In any case, it’s certain that a significant milestone has been reached for the Xbox One, which has been considered “unbreakable” for years.
