Xbox Will Now Follow a Separate Strategy for Each Game

Xbox has become one of the most debated brands in recent years due to its exclusive game strategy. The fact that some titles are coming to PlayStation while others are announced as Xbox console exclusives has naturally raised many questions in the minds of gamers. Statements made after the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 indicate that Microsoft will now prefer to make individual decisions for each game instead of a single fixed formula.

XBOX Will Make Game-by-Game Decisions for Exclusive Games

Matt Booty, Xbox’s senior executive in charge of content, stated in an interview with Gamertag Radio that the exclusive game policy will now be evaluated on a “case-by-case” basis. This approach means that not every title will be subject to the same rules. One game might remain an Xbox console exclusive, while another might be released on PlayStation or other platforms.

Xbox Will Now Follow a Separate Strategy for Each Game

According to Booty, large multiplayer and live-service-focused titles are expected to remain on multiple platforms. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Xbox aims to reach a wider audience with games that are heavily reliant on online platforms. Furthermore, it was stated that promises previously made for multi-platform titles will be kept. This explains why games like Halo Campaign Evolved and Fable, which are coming to PlayStation 5, are being considered as exceptions to this strategy.

In contrast, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have been announced as Xbox console exclusives. This shows that Microsoft won’t automatically port all its brands to other platforms. Booty emphasizes that they aim to make the “right decision” rather than making quick decisions. Platform information, along with release dates, will be shared as clearly as possible.

This strategy still leaves some uncertainties on the Xbox side. How new Halo games, future Call of Duty titles, or major projects like The Elder Scrolls 6 will be positioned is currently unclear. However, the picture is quite clear: Xbox is no longer taking a black-and-white approach to exclusive games. Microsoft will create a separate roadmap for each game based on its genre, audience, previous promises, and commercial potential.
