Zelda: Twilight Princess has Arrived on PC

The last few years have been quite eventful for those who want to play retro games on PC. Besides emulation, recompiled native ports of old console games are gaining increasing popularity. Following games like Banjo-Kazooie, Super Mario 64, and Jak & Daxter, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has now emerged with a similar project. A fan-made port called Dusk makes it possible to run the game natively on PC using files from the GameCube version.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Playable on PC with Dusk Port

Dusk has been released as an independent and unofficial PC port of Twilight Princess. To run the game, users need to have their own game files from the NTSC or PAL GameCube version. When these files are added to the project, Twilight Princess can be played on PC using a native port instead of classic emulation. This offers a more flexible experience in terms of performance, mod support, and modern settings.

The project’s feature list is quite impressive. Dusk supports high frame rates, mouse or gyro aiming, custom character models, texture packs, and options like Mirror Mode from the Wii U version. Furthermore, it’s not limited to Windows; it also offers support for iOS, Android, macOS, and Linux. This makes the project particularly attractive for Steam Deck users.

The trailer showcases settings such as instant text transitions, auto-save, gameplay ease options, and damage multipliers. This allows players to make the experience easier or much more challenging. A brief hint of a randomizer mode at the end of the video suggests even more extreme gameplay options may be coming in the future.

The Dusk team states that the Twilight Princess decompilation project began in 2020 and has reached its current state through years of volunteer contributions. The result is not just a nostalgic PC port, but also a new playground that can grow with modding and community support. Zelda: Twilight Princess’s arrival on PC in this way is one of the best examples of how classic games can be revived on modern platforms through fan-made creations.
