AMD is Testing Radeon MFG 8x and New FSR Options
AMD may have added some FSR (Frame Regeneration) features to its latest Radeon graphics card drivers that haven’t been officially announced yet. Options seen via RadeonTuner include support for up to eightx multi-frame generation and override settings that enable different display technologies in games. However, the presence of these options in the driver doesn’t necessarily mean the features are ready for use.
AMD Radeon MFG 8x and New FSR Options Revealed
A user reviewing the Adrenalin 26.6.2 WHQL drivers with a Radeon RX 9070 XT discovered previously unseen settings in the FSR section. These include FSR Multi Frame Generation Ratio, Multi Frame Generation Override, Ray Regeneration Denoiser Override, and Neural Radiance Caching Override options. The ability to adjust the multi-frame generation ratio up to 8x is particularly noteworthy.
AMD Radeon MFG 8x technology can insert seven extra frames between each naturally generated image frame. This approach can significantly increase the on-screen FPS in supported games. NVIDIA’s current 6x multi-frame system, on the other hand, can generate five extra frames for each natural frame. AMD may thus be testing a higher rate than its competitor.
However, generating more artificial frames could create new challenges in terms of latency and frame timing. AMD’s current solution only inserts one extra frame between each natural frame. If 8x is implemented, improvements to the Anti-Lag technology and frame timing system may also be necessary. Otherwise, control lag and image distortions may occur despite high FPS values.
Ray Regeneration and Neural Radiance Caching settings could also offer gamers the opportunity to use these technologies in games that don’t have official support. Similar driver options can enable upgrades and frame generation technologies in a wider game library. However, AMD has not yet officially announced Radeon MFG 8x or new FSR override options. Therefore, it is currently unknown which graphics cards the features will support and when they will be available.
