Baldur’s Gate 3 companions and locations

Baldur’s Gate 3 companions can be found in the open world, and even complete a series of quests to get some of them. After any of the companions joins you, they will wait for you in your camp if you do not have a place in your party.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, most of the companions are the starting characters of the game. “Black Impulse”, one of the starting characters of the game, is not one of the companions, so you cannot get it as a companion in the game. There are romance sequences with most companions, but this is not true for all companions.

In this guide, we will explain how and where to get all 10 companions in the game. The guide may contain spoilers.

All Baldur’s Gate 3 Companions

  • Astarion
  • Galley
  • Halsin
  • Jaheira
  • Karlach
  • Lae’zel
  • Minsc
  • Minthara
  • Shadowheart
  • Wyll

Six of these characters are starting characters. You can add Astarion, Gale, Karlach, Lae’zel, Shadowheart, Wyll to your party in the first part of the game. Halsin and Minthara, who are not the starting characters, are also the first. You can add it to your party. You can add Jaheira in the second part of the game and Minsc in the third part of your party. When you want to add a companion to your party for the first time, if your party is 4 people, the companion will say that the party is full and go to your camp. For this, if you talk to the character you want to leave and tell him to wait in the camp, you can add the new character to your party instantly. You can also go to your camp and add it there.

If you want to have romance with your companions, you must get their approval with the decisions you make in the game and choose the right conversation options when the time comes and you enter the romance talk. We will convey this to you in another guide. You cannot romance with the characters of Jaheira and Minsc in the game.

You may not get your companions with the decisions you make in the game. If you want to add all game companions to your team, you need to be careful. Because your companions can completely leave your party in the game, die permanently, refuse to join you. You have to pay attention to what you do and say in the game.

Lae’zel

You meet Lae’zel for the first time at the beginning of the game on the deck of the Nautiloid’s ship. Here you can add it to your party temporarily until you escape the ship. After escaping from the ship, you can find it at the location of the picture below and at the coordinates X:240, Y:370.

Go to the indicated location and you will see Lae’zel caught by several Tieflings and kept in a cage. Here you must kill or intimidate the Tieflings to save Lae’zel. If you are playing the Oath of Devotion subclass of the Paladin class, you can become the “Oath-Breaking Paladin” by killing Tieflings here. After the Tieflings leave, you can save Lae’zel by hitting the bottom of Lae’zel’s cage with an arrow. If you don’t have an arrow in your hand, you can save Lae’zel by equipping the arrow on the ground.

In this part, if you fail to save Lae’zel or if you forget to save her, she will appear again on the bridge where the Githyanki Patrol is located in the second part of the game.

Shadowheart

Shadowheart first appears in a Mindfloor capsule on the way to deck on the Nautiloid ship. Lae’zel says it’s a waste of time and says you should take the helm now, if you want to join your Shadowheart team, you shouldn’t listen to Lae’zel here. To recover from Shadowheart’s capsule, you need to enter the room right next to Shadowheart’s location, get the rune from the corpse at the back of the room, and place it in the console next to Shadowheart’s capsule. Shadowheart will be your companion until you escape from the ship.

Gale

Gale appears as she extends her hand from a portal called the Circle of Ancient Seal, which we have a screenshot of, corresponds to X: 222, Y: 325 coordinates on the map. If you want to add the Gale character to your party, you need to interact with the portal.

You can save Gale by throwing dice depending on the stat you are good at. If you’re not proficient in any skill, you can try with Lae’zel or Shadowheart. If you don’t save Gale here, you may encounter him again on the way to the mountain pass, but we advise you not to take the risk.

Astarion

You can find it at the coordinates of X:172 Y:288 where we put the screenshot below.

If you recruit Karlach before you recruit Wyll, Wyll will disappear. To find Wyll, you need to take a long rest or complete the Goblin camp quest.

Halsin

Halsin is the first character who is not the starting character in the game and can join our party. Halsin is held captive in the Goblin camp. You can see its location in the screenshot below and its coordinate is X:401, Y:24. The war with the goblins you saved Halsin will begin, make sure you are ready. If you want to explore the rest of the goblin camp without a fight, tell Halsin not to come with you.

If you haven’t been able to save Halsin here, the goblins will appear when attacking the Druid camp. Even if Halsin comes to your camp, he will not be a playable character until the second part of the game. To add it to your party, Shadow must go to the cursed lands and wake up the unconscious soldier named Art Cullagh after talking to Jaheira. Halsin will join your party when you finish the Art Cullagh quest.

Karlach

Karlach is located on the river side of the building where the paladins are in the first part of the game. You will find the bodies when you follow them. Its coordinates are X:108, Y:509. The screenshot below shows where it is.

If you can’t get Karlach here, you may encounter it in the 3rd part of the game or it may not appear at all, I recommend you not to take this risk. If you kill Tieflings in the Druid camp, Karlach will refuse to join your team. It will be difficult to get Karlach and Minthara in the same game.

Minthara

In Baldur’s Gate 3, it is the companion you will most likely miss. While playing personally, I couldn’t get Minthara as a comrade. If you help the Tieflings in the first part of the game and stop the goblin attack or destroy the goblin camp, you will not be able to get them as companions. If you want to help the helpless Tieflings, or if you want to “role play” while playing the game, you won’t need Minthara.

If you want to get Minthara without killing the Tieflings, you have to skip a few missions. If you don’t bother with the goblin camp and go to the “Moonrise Towers”, you can recruit Minthara there. You can find Minthara in the goblin camp for the first time in the game. Its coordinates are X:331, Y:45.

If you want to add Minthara to your team in the early part of the game, you have to do the things I’m going to explain. After you find Minthara in the goblin camp, you must reveal the location of the Druid camp and agree to trick the Tieflings. After talking to Zevlor in the Druid camp and opening the doors, you need to summon Minthara with the item given by Minthara. Here you are guaranteed to recruit Minthara into your team in the future for the sake of killing the Tieflings. When you go to the Moonrise Towers in the second part of the game, you will find Minthara there.

Here I would like to give some “Late Game” information about Minthara. At the end of the game, you have the ability to summon allies. You will need it in the big battle at the end of the game. Zelvor and his team are among these summonable allies. You cannot summon them at the end of the game if you betray them here.

Jaheira

He is also one of our companions in Baldur’s Gate 1 and Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn. You can find her in Baldur’s Gate 3 for the first time in the Shadow cursed lands, at the Inn of the Last Light. You have to finish the second part of the game in order to be included in your party. It will come to your camp by itself.

Minsc

He is also one of our companions in Baldur’s Gate 1 and Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn. You can add Minsc to your party in the third part of the game. You can add Minsc character to your party by following Jaheira’s questline. He is located on the lowest floor of the “Existence Palace”. Do not go without Jaheira’s mission. When you want to save the Minsc character, all the characters except Jaheira will oppose. I advise you not to listen to them, he is one of the best companions in the game.
