Black Flag Resynced Removed a Popular Weapon from the Game
Black Flag Resynced has so far received positive reactions as a remake that attempts to balance nostalgia with modern touches. Ubisoft’s communication with the community and its openness to player feedback also increased expectations. However, a change to the combat system that emerged during a Q&A session on Reddit has drawn criticism, especially from fans who loved the original game.
Black Flag Resynced Changes Hidden Blade Usage
According to a statement from the development team, hidden blades in Black Flag Resynced will not be used as a separate selectable weapon as in the original game. This means players will not be able to directly control Edward Kenway with hidden blades during combat. Instead, these weapons will be used in contextual finishing moves that activate when the enemy’s defenses are broken.
Creative Director Paul Fu states that this change was made to highlight Edward’s use of dual swords in his main fighting style. While this choice seems like an understandable design decision, the meaning of the hidden blades is somewhat different for Assassin’s Creed fans. The fact that this weapon, synonymous with the series, is being made more limited in combat is seen as an unnecessary restriction by players.
This nostalgia and gameplay habit are at the heart of the reactions. In the original Black Flag, being able to fight directly with hidden blades was one of the key details that combined Edward’s pirate identity with his assassin side. While the remake is said to offer a “faithful yet modern” experience, the fact that such a feature is being sidelined feels like an overly intrusive change to some players.
For now, it is unknown whether Ubisoft will backtrack on this issue. Some players want the hidden blades to be added back as a selectable weapon at launch or in a later update. While the general atmosphere for Black Flag Resynced is still positive, this detail once again shows how even seemingly small changes can be significant for fans in remake projects.
