Brandon Sanderson wants to bring Mistborn to the gaming world
Brandon Sanderson may be preparing to bring the rich universes he has created in the world of fantasy literature to the world of video games. Speaking in his year-end review, Sanderson revealed that the possibility of a video game for the Mistborn series is now seriously on the table. Although still in its early stages, the statements have significantly raised fan expectations.
The Idea for a Mistborn Game is Now More Serious
In his “State of the Sanderson” review for 2025, Sanderson confirmed that he has contacted major studios regarding a video game adaptation of Mistborn. Previously stating that he couldn’t explore this area because the game rights were tied to film projects, the author now says the door is open. This means that Mistborn has a real chance to enter the world of video games for the first time.
This isn’t the first game attempt for Mistborn. A project announced and developed in 2012 was later cancelled. However, according to Sanderson, the circumstances are very different this time. Both his position in the industry and his desire for creative control could ensure a new adaptation proceeds on a more solid foundation.
The Mistborn universe has a highly suitable structure for a game adaptation. Its metal-based power system, vertically movable design, and dark atmosphere offer strong potential, especially for action RPGs or role-playing games. This is seen as a factor that could increase the number of studios interested in the project.
Sanderson also makes it clear that he doesn’t want to remain just an idea. He emphasizes his desire to have a say in the game rights and has issued an open call to interested studios. There is no concrete project or date yet, but Sanderson’s openness paints a promising picture for Mistborn fans. It seems that the world of Scadrial may meet players in the future.
