Does anyone remember Tokyo Scramble, which briefly appeared at Nintendo Direct earlier this month? Most of us watched the trailer and couldn’t quite figure out what it was about. Now that the game has been released, it’s really being talked about. But the reason isn’t very encouraging. A new name has taken the spot for the lowest-rated game of 2026.

Critics Agree on Tokyo Scramble

According to OpenCritic data, the game has an average score of 48. This score makes it the worst-rated game of the year so far. Although the number of reviews isn’t very high, the score range is quite clear: scores like 3/10 and 4/10 stand out. So, this isn’t an “average job,” it’s a serious disappointment.

The game offers a survival and puzzle experience set in underground tunnels. The character, Anne, tries to escape creatures called “Zino,” aiming to reach the light. The concept looks interesting on paper, but critics say the gameplay is superficial, repetitive, and lacks sustained tension. The mismatch between the atmosphere and the music is also a frequently cited problem.

The technical side isn’t bright either. Performance issues, animation fluidity, and visual quality are reported to fall short of expectations. Being a Switch 2 exclusive naturally raised expectations. Exclusive titles released early on a new console are usually a strong showcase. However, the situation seems to have reversed somewhat here.

This development provides a small relief for Code Violet. While it was previously considered the lowest-scoring game of the year with an average score of 40, it has now dropped to second place. Although the difference is only three points, its symbolic significance is significant. 2026 is still a long year, but for now, Tokyo Scramble is at the very bottom of the list.
