Code Violet sequel Code UltraViolet is Coming

Following the release of Code Violet on PS5 last month, which received very low critical scores, Teamkill Media surprisingly announced a sequel. The new project, titled Code UltraViolet, was announced, according to the studio, thanks to the “overwhelming success” of the first game and player support. However, the reality presents a serious contradiction to this claim.

Code UltraViolet Announced, But Big Questions

Teamkill Media stated on social media that Code UltraViolet was being developed thanks to the support Code Violet received. However, the first game’s performance was far from impressive. With a Metacritic score of 29 critics and a user score of 2.6, the game also boasts an average rating of 2.88 on the PS Store based on approximately 4,000 reviews. Furthermore, 36% of players gave the game one star.

The criticisms focused particularly on technical issues, weak weapon mechanics, and repetitive map designs. Reviews highlighted the sluggish gameplay and general quality problems, while some visual choices were also criticized in terms of tone. Despite this, the studio’s use of the term “success” for the sequel is noteworthy.

Currently, no detailed gameplay information has been shared about Code UltraViolet. The platform and release date are also unclear. However, whether Teamkill Media learns from the problems of the first game will be the most important factor determining the project’s fate.

This announcement following Code Violet is reminiscent of an interesting phenomenon sometimes seen in the industry: even a poorly received game can find a sequel with the right marketing or niche audience support. Now, all eyes are on whether Code UltraViolet will truly be a comeback or just a repetition of the same formula.
