Days of Thunder 2 Will Bring Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway Together for the First Time

Tom Cruise has officially announced a sequel to the 1990 racing film Days of Thunder. Titled Days of Thunder 2, the film will see Cruise reprise his role as Cole Trickle. The most notable surprise is the addition of Anne Hathaway to the cast. This marks the first time the two actors will be in the same film, and Hathaway is expected to play a significant role as a team owner and engineer.

Days of Thunder 2 Will Center the Racing World Again

It is stated that Anne Hathaway’s character will be a team owner and engineer trying to recruit Cole Trickle to her team. Other details of the story are being kept secret for now, but it is understood that the film will focus not only on the competition on the track but also on the culture and people of the racing world. Tom Cruise also stated at a NASCAR event that they want to recapture this sense of community in the new film.

Jonathan Levine, known for Long Shot and Warm Bodies, will direct the film. The screenplay will be written by Will Staples, who has worked on productions such as Without Remorse and Shooter. Cruise will also serve as a producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. Filming is expected to begin within a few months.

The original Days of Thunder was directed by Tony Scott and starred Tom Cruise alongside Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Nicole Kidman, and Cary Elwes. The film grossed over $157.9 million worldwide. The new production aims to combine the NASCAR atmosphere of the first film with modern racing cinema.

The official release date for Days of Thunder 2 has also been announced. The film will be released in theaters on June 2, 2028. While Tom Cruise’s return to Cole Trickle after many years was already generating excitement, Anne Hathaway’s addition to the project has significantly increased the sequel’s star power.
