DC Crime: Jimmy Olsen Series Officially Coming
Jimmy Olsen, one of the most beloved supporting characters in the Superman universe, is finally getting his own series. The long-rumored project has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. The series, titled “DC Crime,” will be written by American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda. Skyler Gisondo will reprise her role as Jimmy Olsen, from the Superman films.
Jimmy Olsen Chasing Super Crimes
The new DC Crime series is a crime anthology about Daily Planet reporter Jimmy Olsen investigating superpowered criminals. The series will center on a team of journalists who don’t include Lois Lane and Clark Kent. The first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, one of the legendary DC villains. This will be the character’s first live-action appearance in the DCU (DC Universe).
While Grodd is generally known as The Flash’s nemesis, he has also occasionally faced off against Superman. Therefore, DC Crime could offer viewers a glimpse not only into Olsen’s world but also into new metahuman characters that could appear in the DCU in the future.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are executive producers. This means the series will be directly connected to the larger narrative of the DCU. The project is seen as a companion piece to Superman: Legacy, highlighting both its journalistic and dark criminal atmosphere.
While Jimmy Olsen’s character is often portrayed as a witty, naive, yet courageous figure in classic DC narratives, DC Crime looks set to reimagine this aspect of him within a dark and mature framework. The first season is expected to feature dark alleys, corrupt powers, and “unsung heroes.”
A release date has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be included on HBO’s 2026 release schedule. For viewers looking for a different perspective on the DC universe, DC Crime seems to open a dark window into Superman’s idealistic world.
