Final Fantasy 14 will Match Players from the Same Region
One feature that Final Fantasy 14 players have been wanting for years is finally becoming a reality. Square Enix will begin testing a new matchmaking system in Japan next month that will connect different data centers in the same physical region. If the system works smoothly, it will then be rolled out to other regions.
Final Fantasy 14 Will Connect Data Centers in the Same Region
The logic behind the new system is quite simple. For example, players in the Light data center in Europe will be able to directly match with players in the Chaos data center. This will allow you to access a wider pool of players in the same physical region without being tied to the data center where you created your character.
The changes won’t be limited to Duty Finder. Party Finder, ranked Crystalline Conflict, Cross-world Linkshell, Fellowship, and PvP Team systems will also work across regions. Players will be able to send party invitations and private messages to people in different data centers. Finding groups, especially for older raids or less-played content, could become much less cumbersome.
Some systems will remain unchanged. Features directly tied to a specific world, such as Housing, Retainer, standard Linkshell, Market Board, and Delivery Moogle, will not be affected by the new matchmaking system. Players will also be able to travel more easily between different data centers within the same physical region via City Aetheryte points.
A small but somewhat humorous detail emerges regarding names. If Cross-world Linkshell, PvP Team, or Fellowship names are the same across different data centers, the system will add a number to the end of the name. So, if you wake up one morning and see a “2” at the end of your group name, there’s no need to panic. Final Fantasy 14 is preparing to bring its fragmented player community a little closer together after years of division.
