Denuvo Sues Unidentified Voices38

Voices38 has become one of the most talked-about names in the game piracy scene lately. After a period where Denuvo-protected games remained virtually untouchable, the cracking of numerous games has once again caught the company’s attention. Now, Denuvo has initiated legal proceedings against this still-unidentified individual or group.

Valve, Reddit, and Discord can be Contacted for Information Regarding Voices38

In Denuvo’s lawsuit, it is alleged that Voices38 bypassed DRM systems in copyrighted works, disabling protections and enabling the spread of pirated versions. However, since Denuvo does not own the intellectual property of the games, the lawsuit is not directly based on copyright infringement. Instead, the company is basing its claim on the provisions of the DMCA aimed at circumventing digital protections.

The main problem is that the identity of the defendant is unknown. Voices38 shares their work anonymously on platforms like Reddit and Discord. While it’s thought to be a single individual, even that isn’t confirmed. Denuvo claims to have accessed a Steam profile that they believe may be linked to Voices38, and that this account could reveal their identity.

Therefore, the company is requesting permission from the court to send subpoenas to Valve, Reddit, and Discord. The aim is to see if user information obtained from these accounts can lead to the identification of Voices38’s true identity. Of course, it’s also highly likely that an anonymous worker would have concealed such traces beforehand.

Even if the identity is revealed, the matter may not be resolved immediately. Voices38’s country of residence could directly affect the enforceability of a lawsuit filed in the US. Nevertheless, regardless of the outcome, Denuvo’s move could put pressure on piracy groups and significantly hinder sharing on Reddit or Discord.
