Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Changed Sephiroth’s Voice
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation generated great excitement among fans of the series after its announcement at Summer Game Fest 2026. While Square Enix indicated Spring 2027 for the final installment of the trilogy, an important detail that caught the attention of some players in the trailer was soon confirmed. Sephiroth, one of the most iconic characters in the series, will appear with a different voice actor in the English version of the new game.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Brings New Voice Acting for Sephiroth
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in an interview with Maxmillian Dood that there has been a change in the English voice acting cast for Sephiroth. Hamaguchi also stated that he was surprised that players noticed the difference in the trailer so quickly. According to the explanation, Square Enix had to recast the character because the previous English voice actor, Tyler Hoechlin, could not return for the new installment.
Shortly after, Square Enix shared additional information revealing that Travis Willingham would be Sephiroth’s new English voice. Known from the Critical Role team, Willingham has a considerable background in the gaming world, having previously voiced numerous projects including Infamous Second Son, Saints Row, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel Rivals, and Dispatch.
The change of voice for such a powerful and memorable character as Sephiroth naturally sparked immediate debate among fans. For players accustomed to Tyler Hoechlin’s performance throughout Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, this change might feel different at first. However, Travis Willingham’s experience is seen as a strong choice to convey the character’s cold, menacing, and charismatic side.
Other important details about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation were also shared. The director revealed that while there will be choices in the game, the story will progress to a single ending. It was also stated that the possibility of DLC remains open. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, with Sephiroth’s new voice, will face a major test in terms of both story and character presentation in the trilogy’s finale.
