God of War Sons of Sparta has Co-Op, but Nobody can Use it

God of War Sons of Sparta was surprisingly announced at the State of Play event and released the same day. The side story, notable for its 2D gameplay, sparked expectations of co-op when its store page indicated support for 1-2 players. Scenes in the trailer showing Kratos and Deimos fighting side-by-side further reinforced this expectation. However, players who purchased and tried the game couldn’t figure out how to add a second player.

The PlayStation Store page for God of War Sons of Sparta clearly states support for 1-2 players. Despite this, it’s reported that there’s no “add second player” option in the in-game menus. Furthermore, when a second controller is connected, no invitation or matchmaking screen appears. This situation quickly sparked widespread debate on social media.

Some players have suggested that the co-op mode might only unlock after a certain point. Theories have been put forward that the entire game should be completed in single-player mode. However, no concrete evidence has been shared to support this claim so far. Some users even claim to have received a response from PlayStation support stating that the game doesn’t actually include co-op.

On the other hand, the trailer showing Kratos and Deimos fighting together is increasing the confusion. It’s possible these scenes are only part of the story sequences and don’t offer a playable co-op mode.
