GTA Online Imposes Gambling Ban on Australian Players
GTA Online has been forced to change some of its features over the years to comply with laws in different countries. This time, a new decision has prevented Australian players from using one of the game’s most well-known locations as before. The tightening of age verification and digital gambling regulations has directly impacted Rockstar’s online world.
GTA Online Restricts Casino Features in Australia
Australian players can no longer participate in gambling activities within the Diamond Casino & Resort. They cannot interact with options such as poker, blackjack, roulette, and the Lucky Wheel. Players are also prevented from using the private tables located within the Penthouse. However, casino chips can still be bought and sold, and the daily 1,000 free chips can still be obtained.
The change was first noticed by players and then confirmed through examination of the game files. The code showed that casino activities were individually disabled, along with the “AU” region tag representing Australia. This suggests the situation isn’t a temporary bug, but a direct regional restriction. Casino content remains in the game, but Australian accounts cannot use these features.
The decision is thought to be linked to stricter age verification and gambling regulations in the country. While casino activities in GTA Online don’t directly offer real money, they operate through in-game currency and chips. Therefore, it’s possible regulators have classified the system as digital gambling. Rockstar Games has not yet shared a comprehensive statement about the details of the restriction or whether it will be permanent.
The main question is how this approach will affect the new online experience coming with GTA 6. If the new GTA Online version includes casino or similar games of chance, Australian players may encounter more limited content. Furthermore, there’s a possibility that similar regulations will be implemented in other countries.
