Hideo Kojima Has Not Yet Decided on the Game Engine for PHYSINT
PHYSINT underwent a significant change in its development process with PlayStation withdrawing from the project and Xbox taking over publishing. However, this transition doesn’t seem to affect only the financing or publishing side. Hideo Kojima stated that he hasn’t yet definitively decided which engine the game will be developed with, and that the new partnership with Xbox offers the studio the opportunity to experiment with different technologies.
Decima Engine Not Yet Confirmed for PHYSINT
Kojima was directly asked whether he would continue with the Decima Engine used in the Death Stranding games. The renowned developer clearly stated that he hasn’t made a decision yet. Therefore, it’s not certain at this stage that PHYSINT will be developed with Decima, and the studio has various technical options available.
It appears that the Xbox partnership may play a significant role in this decision. Kojima stated that Microsoft has promised them substantial technological support and that he was quite impressed by the new technologies being worked on during a past visit to the company’s labs. He specifically mentioned his desire to utilize experimental and advanced systems as much as possible.
Kojima Productions’ relationship with Xbox isn’t limited to PHYSINT. The studio is also continuing work on the previously announced OD. Development of the project, which was temporarily halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, has resumed. This suggests that the technical collaboration between Kojima Productions and Xbox could extend to multiple projects.
Some key decisions have already been made regarding PHYSINT. Bill Skarsgård has been announced as one of the game’s lead actors. However, a crucial aspect that will determine the technical foundation of the project, such as the game engine, remains open. According to Kojima’s statements, the team wants to evaluate the technological capabilities offered by Xbox as much as possible before making a final decision.
