Is the Graphics Quality of GTA 6 Worse than in the First Trailer?

New screenshots of Grand Theft Auto 6 released by Rockstar Games have become a hot topic, not only for the game’s price but also for their visuals. Numerous players on social media, forums, and Reddit have begun comparing the new images to previous trailers. Following these comparisons, claims have emerged that the graphics quality of GTA has been downgraded. However, Rockstar Games has not yet made any official statement regarding this.

Why is GTA’s Graphics Quality Being Debated?

The focus of the debate centers on a safe house seen in the second trailer and the official screenshots released later. Some players claim that the vegetation, shadows, and especially the hair and beard details of the Jason character are of lower quality compared to previous trailers. Conversely, many users point out that the screenshots were taken at different times, in different weather conditions, and from different camera angles.

The effect of lighting on the scene has become one of the most important points of contention. The lengthening of shadows, the appearance of different color tones, and the fading of vegetation as the sun’s position changes have been interpreted as a decrease in quality by some players. However, other users point out that in modern game engines, the same scene can look completely different depending on the time of day.

Character modeling is also a topic of discussion. The fact that Jason’s beard and hair details appear weaker in some images strengthens claims of a drop in quality, although it’s suggested this could be due to the distance-based detail reduction (LOD) system. It’s a well-known practice in video games to reduce the rendering of certain details as the camera moves further away from the character to maintain performance.

For now, there’s no concrete evidence to support the claims about GTA’s graphic quality. On the contrary, most of the differences seen in the shared images can be explained by lighting, camera angles, rendering techniques, and natural variations in the development process. Since the game hasn’t been released yet, the debate is expected to continue, and a definitive assessment of visual quality can only be made when players experience the final version.
