Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are Asking for More Money for Rush Hour 4
Rush Hour 4, a project that has been talked about for years but never quite got off the ground, is back. While fans of the series are eagerly awaiting to see Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker together again, things don’t seem to be going so smoothly behind the scenes. Recent reports indicate that the film is facing serious obstacles not only in casting but also in budget, financing, and scriptwriting.
Negotiations for Rush Hour 4 are Difficult
According to reports, Paramount offered Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker $8 million for Rush Hour 4. However, both actors reportedly found this figure below their expectations. The main reason for this is that the duo received approximately $20 million for Rush Hour 3. Considering the years that have passed and the series’ continued strong nostalgic value, it seems that the gap between the parties will not be easily closed.
Production was initially expected to begin filming in the summer, but due to unfinished deals, the schedule is reportedly pushed back to September at the earliest. Furthermore, filming is planned in various locations including China, Africa, and Saudi Arabia, making the film logistically more complex and costly. The fact that a significant portion of the budget, said to be around $115-$120 million, relies on Middle Eastern investors adds further uncertainty to the project.
Another noteworthy point concerns the screenplay. Currently, no official screenwriter has been announced for Rush Hour 4. Jackie Chan is known to be reluctant to make a fourth film without a high-quality script. Therefore, even if actor salaries are resolved, there are still important creative issues that need clarification.
Looking at the overall picture, it’s possible to say Rush Hour 4 is “on track,” but it’s difficult to say it’s “progressing smoothly.” The return of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker is one of the biggest assets that will strengthen the project, but it’s important not to set expectations too high before deals are finalized and the script is confirmed. For now, the film remains a project that excites fans but still has significant obstacles to overcome.
