Metal Gear Solid Fans Loved the Solid Snake Actor

The Metal Gear Solid movie has finally been greenlit, but it’s still unclear who will play Solid Snake. After Oscar Isaac left the project, the role was once again vacant. Recently, social media posts suggesting Wyatt Russell would play Snake have spread rapidly, and fans have been very happy with the idea. There’s a small problem: the casting isn’t real. However, the reaction shows that Russell is seriously wanted for the role.

Metal Gear Solid Fans Want Wyatt Russell as Solid Snake

There’s a nice connection behind the popularity of the Wyatt Russell idea. His father, Kurt Russell, played the character Snake Plissken in the film Escape from New York. It’s long been known that Hideo Kojima was heavily influenced by this character when creating Solid Snake. Even the name “Pliskin” used by Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2 is hardly a coincidence.

The fan-created scenario gets even more entertaining here. It suggests Wyatt Russell as Solid Snake while Kurt Russell is wanted as Big Boss. Given that Snake is a clone of Big Boss in the series, the real-life father-son relationship fits nicely into the mix. It’s a little too perfect, let’s admit it.

Unfortunately, the casting list circulating online came from a parody account. The same list also included claims that Bryan Cranston would be Colonel Roy Campbell, Scott Eastwood would be Liquid Snake, and Alexandra Daddario would be the Para-Medic. So, there’s currently no confirmed Wyatt Russell deal.

Nevertheless, the fake post unexpectedly sparked a good casting debate. The Metal Gear Solid movie has been evolving in various ways for over 20 years, and it’s finally moving forward. When the official cast is announced, the first thing fans will look at is clear: whether or not Wyatt Russell is cast as Solid Snake.
