Nightdive Has Its Eyes on Old Console Games
Nightdive Studios, known for its expertise in bringing retro games to modern platforms, has set a new goal: remastering games from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era. The studio said it relies on its experience in adapting these games to modern hardware. Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick and business development director Larry Kuperman stated that they can overcome this difficult process and aim to bring unforgettable games from this period back to life.
Nightdive’s Remaster Plans
Nightdive has previously successfully remastered retro games such as System Shock, Quake, Blade Runner and Doom 64, and has become a brand in this field. Now, it plans to focus on Xbox 360 and PS3 games. Kuperman stated that factors such as the quality of the source code, the condition of the assets and the feedback from the original developers will be taken into consideration in order to revive games from this period, and said, “We cannot let these games disappear.”
Stephen Kick also drew attention to the complex architecture of the PS3, stating that despite the difficulty of remastering for this platform, these difficulties can be overcome thanks to the KEX engine that Nightdive developed itself. Kick gave the PS3-exclusive game “Haze” as an example and emphasized that they are open to collaborating with the original developers on such projects.
Nightdive admits that the complex hardware architecture of the PlayStation 3 may be a challenging process. However, the studio states that they are ready for the service with the knowledge they have gained from their past experiences. They think that they can solve technical problems such as performance issues, resolution increases and loading times thanks to the KEX engine.
This new goal of Nightdive is an exciting development for nostalgic gamers. It seems that porting unforgettable games from the Xbox 360 and PS3 era to modern platforms will be a great opportunity for both nostalgia and new generation gamers.
