Players have made a clear call for Larian to join the Divinity team
Larian Studios, which has built a strong community relationship with the Divinity series, is known for heavily considering player feedback during the early access phase in the past. However, fans raising their voices for the new Divinity are now asking the studio for something unusual: not listening to the community when it comes to companion characters.
Divinity Community Wants to Warn Larian About Companions
At the heart of this player reaction are the character changes in Baldur’s Gate 3. The transformation of Wyll, a darker, more contradictory character in early access, into a more “flat” and risk-free character in the full release has long been criticized. A significant portion of the community believes this change makes the character less engaging.
According to fans, the problem isn’t the receipt of feedback, but the excessive softening of the story and character writing based on that feedback. Many companions who were tougher, more arrogant, and morally gray in early access are having their edges smoothed out in the release, damaging the spirit of series like Divinity and Baldur’s Gate.
Another frequently cited example is making Minthara playable. Players argue that this decision is problematic in terms of story consistency, and that having a character who has been involved in serious events in the camp with almost no reaction weakens the narrative. This supports the idea that feedback, instead of strengthening the story, is damaging it in some areas.
The call for a new Divinity is quite clear: Larian’s willingness to listen to the community on gameplay and technical matters is welcome, but the studio is expected to remain true to its own vision when it comes to the fate and personalities of the companion characters. According to the actors, not every character needs to be happy or “lovable,” and it’s precisely these risky, divisive, yet memorable characters that make Divinity special.
