Robert Pattinson was Scared of Matt Damon on the Set of The Odyssey
A funny misunderstanding between Robert Pattinson and Matt Damon during the filming of The Odyssey has come to light. Pattinson, who plays the character Antinous in the film, explained that he thought Damon had lost control due to loud noises coming from the trailer next door. The truth is, the veteran actor was doing something unusual to prepare his voice for the role of Odysseus, aiming to make it sound older and more tired.
Matt Damon Was Preparing His Voice on The Odyssey Set
Robert Pattinson said that Matt Damon’s trailer was right next to his own and that he constantly heard shouting before filming. Knowing Damon as a calm and gentle person, he couldn’t understand what he was hearing, jokingly thinking he was arguing on the phone or having a very bad moment.
According to Pattinson, as the shouting continued for a long time, the situation began to seem increasingly bizarre. The actor thought Damon was having a serious problem and that his behavior on set was completely different than he expected. After learning that the sounds weren’t from any argument, Pattinson described his surprise, saying he thought Damon was “a complete psychopath” at the time.
It turned out that Matt Damon was actually preparing his voice for the Odysseus character. The veteran actor was doing intense exercises that strained his vocal cords to achieve a more aged voice tone. Tom Holland, who plays Telemachus in the film, also stated that he witnessed the preparation process and found Damon’s work impressive. Pattinson, however, joked that the method might take years off the actor’s life.
The Odyssey brings Robert Pattinson and Matt Damon together in the same film for the first time. In the film directed by Christopher Nolan, Damon plays Odysseus, who is trying to return to his homeland after his long journey, while Pattinson plays Antinous, one of the suitors who wants to marry Penelope. The Odyssey will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
