Rockstar Sets Its Sights on Remasters
As Rockstar approaches the release of GTA 6, gamers are naturally looking to the studio’s next steps. Since the development time for new major games is now much longer, porting older titles to modern platforms is becoming a more logical interim solution. A recent job posting suggests Rockstar may be revisiting this idea.
Rockstar May Be Preparing for Remaster Projects
The job posting for a Senior Gameplay Programmer at Rockstar Games Australia states that the candidate will work on “classic game technologies.” This statement alone doesn’t definitively mean a remaster announcement, but it does indicate that the studio is working on a project related to older game infrastructures. For a company with such a vast archive as Rockstar, this naturally raises the possibility of remasters.
This possibility seems even stronger, especially after Red Dead Redemption’s porting to modern platforms. Rockstar could fill the long gaps between major new releases by updating older titles. This would allow them to both bring their classic games to new players and offer their existing fanbase nostalgic yet accessible experiences.
One of the most requested projects is GTA 4. Niko Bellic’s story is still considered one of Rockstar’s strongest narratives, and a version that runs more smoothly on modern consoles has long been in demand. In the post-GTA 6 era, a GTA 4 remaster could be a very logical move to both keep brand interest alive and return to Liberty City.
Max Payne 3 similarly stands out as a strong candidate. With Remedy’s Max Payne remake projects approaching, Rockstar porting the third game to current platforms could be a complementary step for the series. While there’s no official announcement yet, the classic tech emphasis in the job posting strongly suggests Rockstar is planning something related to their old catalog.
