September 2026 Will be the Busiest Gaming Season in Recent Years
September 2026 has become a month of unusually busy release schedules for the gaming world. Following the State of Play presentation, the placement of many major titles in the same period has created an exciting but somewhat risky situation for studios. Furthermore, the expectation of a massive game like GTA 6 at the end of the year makes it even more difficult for publishers to find a safe space in the schedule.
September Overflowing with Big Games
According to the picture that became clear after the State of Play, Marvel’s Wolverine will be released on September 15, 2026, making it one of the biggest games of the month. The opening of pre-orders for Insomniac’s Logan adventure suggests that this date is unlikely to change. The studio’s tendency not to frequently delay its games also makes Wolverine one of the strongest contenders for the schedule.
The rest of the month is also incredibly packed. Silent Hill: Townfall is scheduled for September 24th, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword for September 25th. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will follow closely behind on September 28th. The release of so many major titles from different genres within days could create serious competition, especially in terms of news coverage and player interest.
In addition, console releases of titles like Dune: Awakening, The Blood of the Dawnwalker, Halloween: The Game, and Control Resonant are also expected in the same month. The inclusion of Control Resonant, a title eagerly anticipated by Remedy fans, further complicates the month. While this means plenty of options for players, it might not be easy for every game to gain sufficient visibility.
The real issue, however, is the expected November release of GTA 6. Many studios seem to be trying to stay away from Rockstar’s massive game. But with everyone rushing to September, another bottleneck has emerged. With Summer Game Fest, Xbox Showcase, and potential Nintendo announcements, the calendar could become even more packed. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if some games were delayed in the coming weeks.
