The 10-Year-Old Radeon Pro WX 5100 Continues to Challenge Modern Gaming
Normally designed for professional use, the Radeon Pro WX 5100 doesn’t seem very competitive for today’s games. However, a new test has shown that the card can be significantly sped up with BIOS modification. The card, which has become particularly interesting for low-budget systems, managed to achieve playable frame rates in many modern games, from Cyberpunk 2077 to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Radeon Pro WX 5100 Doubles Performance with BIOS Mod
In its stock configuration, the card achieved slightly over 30 FPS in the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark test. After increasing the power limit, raising memory frequencies, and tightening memory timings, performance almost doubled. With the modified BIOS, results approaching 60 FPS were seen in the same test.
In real-world gaming tests, Cyberpunk 2077 averaged 46 FPS at 1080p resolution with medium settings, high texture quality, and FSR enabled. Red Dead Redemption 2 reached an average of 65 FPS with a mix of medium, high, and ultra settings. Fortnite achieved 152 FPS in performance mode, while Counter-Strike 2 reached 187 FPS on competitive settings.
Arc Raiders ran at around 54 FPS at 1080p with medium settings and balanced FSR, while PUBG averaged 56 FPS and Crysis Remastered 64 FPS. More demanding or diverse titles like Oblivion Remastered, BeamNG, and Paralives also achieved results above 30 FPS. This shows that the 10-year-old card still possesses surprising resilience.
The Radeon Pro WX 5100 technically boasts 8GB of memory, 1,792 shader units, and a 120W TDP, and doesn’t require an external power connector. Because it draws all its power from the PCIe slot, it can be a viable upgrade option for older systems. However, the resale value of the card has risen from $40 to around $70 after recent testing. Furthermore, the approaching end of driver support could be a significant drawback in the long run.
