In The Duskbloods, One Character has Already Crushed the Others
FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods, developed exclusively for the Switch 2, has completed its initial online testing phase. Players had the opportunity to try out different Bloodsworn characters during this period, and Zork quickly stood out with its unusual design and gameplay style. Moreover, this interest stems not only from its strength but also directly from the character’s peculiarity.
The Duskbloods Players Have Already Turned Zork into a Mascot
Zork wears an old-fashioned, heavy diving suit and uses underwater equipment as weapons. He can fire missiles from his back, perform heavy attacks in close combat, and move quickly across the battlefield with his Human Rocket ability. Even within FromSoftware’s approach of bringing together characters from different eras and aesthetics, Zork stands out as quite unique.
The players’ interest quickly turned into memes and fan art. On social media, Zork’s name started being used like a verb, and “Zorking” jokes spread in some communities. While Layla, Samir, Albert, Jan, and Trang Lanh also garnered attention among the six characters presented in the network test, Zork became by far the most talked-about name.
The character doesn’t just stand out for its comical design. Players who participated in the test say that its heavy melee attacks are quite effective, but the slow animations can create a risk against faster Bloodsworn characters. However, its missile attacks and mobility make Zork a more agile fighter than expected.
Hidetaka Miyazaki also stated that Zork is one of his favorites. The character’s concept originated from the idea of a Bloodsworn emerging from the deep sea and was inspired by creatures from Ultraman and Ultra Seven. Even its beak, which can extend to drink blood, is part of the design. The fact that Zork became the unofficial mascot of the community even before The Duskbloods was released suggests that FromSoftware may have achieved more than they intended with this quirky character.
