The Far Cry Series Will Take a Different Path Than the Games
As the Far Cry universe prepares to move to television, the direction the series will take is slowly becoming clearer. Announced in November 2025, the live-action project will not be a direct adaptation of the games. Instead, it adopts a much more free and creative approach. This clearly shows that the series will deviate from the classic “game adaptation” formula.
Far Cry Series Could Tell a Different Story Each Season
Noah Hawley, who is leading the project, shared important details about the series’ approach. According to Hawley, the most important element that makes the Far Cry series special is that each game offers a standalone story. This structure seems to be preserved in the series as well. This means that instead of being tied to a single story, viewers could experience a new Far Cry adventure set in a different location each season.
This approach is quite similar to the anthology format Hawley previously used in the Fargo series. This structure, where each season progresses with different characters and storylines, is considered a very suitable choice for a large and flexible universe like Far Cry. Thus, the series will have the opportunity to tell original stories reflecting the spirit of the series without being tied to a single game.
Hawley also emphasizes that direct adaptations of video games don’t always yield good results. According to him, games are often gameplay-driven, so dramatic storytelling can take a backseat. This can create problems when adapted to a character and story-driven medium like television. Therefore, instead of simply copying events from the games, the team aims to create a new narrative language that captures the “Far Cry feel.”
Currently, there is no concrete information about the cast or release date of the series. However, it is known that the project will be released on the Hulu platform and is being developed in collaboration with FX. Considering the significant momentum gained by game adaptations recently, it is already a matter of curiosity how the Far Cry series will find its place in this trend.
