The GeForce RTX 5080 Lasted One Day on DLSS 5

The GeForce RTX 5080 is back in the spotlight with a new user report. A gamer using an MSI Ventus 3X model claims that the graphics card, which worked flawlessly for about a month, became completely unusable with image distortions and freezes shortly after starting to use the DLSS 5 mod in GTA 5. However, at this stage, there is not enough data to prove that DLSS 5 directly caused the graphics card to malfunction.

GeForce RTX 5080 Fails After DLSS 5

According to the user, the problem appeared on the second day of using the DLSS 5 mods while playing GTA 5. While the game was running at around 80 FPS, after five minutes, intense artifact images and flickering started appearing on both screens. Then the system completely froze, and the computer became unresponsive to all commands.

The remarkable thing is that the GeForce RTX 5080 had previously worked flawlessly for about a month without using DLSS 5. The user then says they replaced the graphics card with another working RTX 5080 and stopped using the mods until official DLSS 5 support became more widespread.

A similar claim had previously surfaced regarding the RTX 5090. One user alleged that they experienced a meltdown in the power connector while testing the official DLSS 5 implementation in NBA 2K27. However, a few user reports aren’t enough to definitively say that DLSS 5 is breaking graphics cards.

Nevertheless, DLSS 5 is known to place a heavier load on power consumption. Some tests have shown that under certain conditions, power consumption can increase by up to 50% compared to DLSS 4.5. Since modern GPUs have numerous protection systems, directly blaming DLSS 5 isn’t possible at the moment. More similar cases and technical analyses are needed to determine if the GeForce RTX 5080 issue is truly software-related.
