The Saints Row Series May Continue with a Different Cast

Saints Row had been shrouded in uncertainty following the disappointment of the last game and the closure of Volition. However, new statements from Embracer Group suggest the series may not have been completely shelved. The company stated it is considering external partnerships for some of its well-known brands, and the inclusion of Saints Row among these brands has caught the attention of gamers.

A New Partnership Opportunity May Open for Saints Row

Embracer Group has announced it may be more actively seeking external partnerships for some IPs outside of its major brands. This list includes long-dormant series such as Saints Row, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Red Faction, Thief, and TimeSplitters. This means Saints Row could be revisited by a new development team.

The Saints Row Series May Continue with a Different Cast

The biggest turning point in the series’ journey to this point was the failure of the 2022 Saints Row reboot to meet expectations. A significant portion of players felt the new characters and tonal changes were far removed from the spirit of the series. Following this, in 2023, Embracer shut down Volition, the original developer of the series. The rights remained with Deep Silver, a subsidiary of Embracer.

Interestingly, there were previously claims that a more traditional Saints Row game featuring classic characters was also in development. However, it was rumored that the project was instead directed towards a reboot. If this information is accurate, the return that fans wanted was at one point on the table, but the outcome was completely different. Unfortunately, the development team paid the price the most.

For now, a new Saints Row game has not been officially announced. However, Embracer’s openness to external partnerships offers a small glimmer of hope for the brand’s future. With the right team, the right tone, and an approach closer to the wild spirit of the old games, Saints Row could return to the streets once again. However, the biggest question will be how this comeback will feel without Volition.
