The Secret Power That Speeds Up Cole in Infamous 2 Has Been Revealed

Despite being released nearly 15 years ago, Infamous 2 still seems to hold details yet to be discovered. Sucker Punch’s beloved open-world action game is back in the spotlight with an unused ability unearthed by a dataminer. Allegedly, Infamous 2 may contain a hidden traversal ability that would allow Cole to move much faster through the city using electrical power.

Unused Electrical Power Found in Infamous 2

Images shared on Reddit show Cole seemingly gliding through the city using electrical energy. This movement is quite different from classic running or gliding on rails mechanics. The character’s rapid gliding across the ground reminded some players of Cole’s aerial movement during the early battle with The Beast. However, the user who discovered it believes this animation might not be just a simple remnant from that scene.

The main reason for this is that the ability itself has a unique acceleration response. According to shared information, Cole moves faster when the player holds down the X button during this movement. Furthermore, some special adjustments made to the animations suggest that this may have been planned as a real gameplay mechanic rather than a cutscene remnant. If this is true, Sucker Punch may have considered giving Cole a much more aggressive and faster urban movement ability at some point.

Infamous 2 already had a structure that expanded Cole’s movement capabilities compared to the first game. Different traversal options based on power lines, rails, fire, and ice powers increased the game’s pace. However, this newly revealed electric sliding ability could have taken the game’s traversal system to a completely different level. In fact, the performance drops in the video might offer a small clue as to why this feature was cut.

Recent rumors that PlayStation might show renewed interest in older brands have brought the Infamous name back into the spotlight. Whether a new Infamous project will actually happen is unknown, but the fact that such details are revealed in Infamous 2 even after all these years shows how much the series is still loved. Cole’s unused electric speed boost seems like a nice lost idea that fans will wish was in the game.
