Three Xbox games will bid farewell to players in January 2026
As we enter 2026, a disappointing development is unfolding for Xbox gamers. Starting in January, three different titles are officially bidding farewell to the Xbox ecosystem as server support ends. These closures have once again raised questions about the future of online-focused games.
Xbox Server Shutdowns for January 2026 Officially Confirmed
The most notable game on the list is undoubtedly Anthem. Developed by BioWare and Electronic Arts, the title was removed from stores in August. With the complete server shutdown on January 12, 2026, Anthem will become unplayable on any platform due to its online-only nature. The absence of an offline mode makes this farewell even more certain.
Another game closure comes from the sports gaming world. NBA Live 19, which has long been plagued by server issues, will bid farewell to Xbox servers on January 30, 2026. Given the connection problems players have experienced for months, this decision is not surprising, but it also marks a quiet end for the series.
The third game to close in January is Warlander, known for its free-to-play model. Its servers will be shut down on January 20, 2026, after which it will be completely inaccessible. The sustainability debate surrounding free-to-play projects has been brought back to the forefront by the Warlander example.
Actually, a fourth game could have been on the list. The planned server shutdown for WWE 2K24 has been postponed to March, but it has been confirmed that the game and all its additional content will be removed from stores at the end of January. Project CARS 3 is expected to follow in February, and other sports and online games are expected to share a similar fate later in the year.
