Will Escape from Tarkov PvE be free, or will it be completely removed?

Known for its hardcore and brutal gameplay, Escape from Tarkov has once again become the focus of heated debate, this time over its PvE mode. Nikita Buyanov, the game’s creator, made an unusual social media post, launching a poll questioning the future of Escape from Tarkov PvE, sparking considerable debate within the player community.

What Do Players Want for Escape from Tarkov PvE?

The poll shared by Nikita Buyanov included three options, two of which were quite striking: “Make PvE free” or “Remove PvE entirely.” Thousands of players participated in the poll, with the majority wanting Escape from Tarkov PvE to become free. Over half of the approximately 17,000 votes cast favored removing PvE as a paid add-on.

A more radical view emerged in the second round. A significant portion of players argued that the PvE mode harmed the spirit of Escape from Tarkov and demanded its complete removal. Those advocating this view were mostly veteran players who prioritized PvP and wanted to preserve the game’s fierce competitive structure. According to them, Escape from Tarkov PvE weakened the game’s “brutal survival” identity.

However, as the debate intensified, an additional statement from Buyanov slightly altered the tone. The renowned developer stated that the poll was less a serious decision-making process and more a playful jab at the never-ending complaints about the PvE mode. Therefore, the sudden removal or free-to-play nature of Escape from Tarkov PvE is not currently a confirmed decision.

In fact, quite the opposite, according to reports, the Escape from Tarkov PvE aspect will continue to grow throughout 2026. Battlestate Games plans to extend the PvE experience into Escape from Tarkov: Arena. This suggests that PvE could play an even more important role in the future, especially for players who want to avoid the stress of PvP.
