Tim Cain Worked like Crazy During the Fallout Development Process

Tim Cain, a legendary figure in the gaming world, has once again made headlines with new revelations about the development process of Fallout. Looking back years later, Cain openly described the pace of work during that period, surprising many players with the picture that emerged. This process, which laid the foundations of Fallout, is remarkable not only for its creativity but also for its intense labor.

Tim Cain Built Fallout with Passion

Tim Cain explains that he dedicated almost his entire life to the project during the development of the first Fallout game. According to Cain, days started early in the morning and ended after 7 pm. These long days were spent not only writing code but also in meetings, planning, and exchanging ideas within the team.

Cain says he wasn’t content with just working this pace during the week, and often spent Saturdays in the office as well. While weekends were shorter initially, in the last six months of development, Saturdays and Sundays became full-time shifts. He openly states that during this period, his weekly working hours approached 80 hours.

One noteworthy point is that Cain doesn’t describe this period as a classic “crunch.” He emphasizes that no one forced him into this, and that he maintained this pace entirely of his own free will. He states that working on Fallout wasn’t an obligation for him, but a great passion, and that the resulting game is the result of this dedication.

Tim Cain also mentions that the detailed notes he kept during those years are still useful today and form the basis of these shared memories. Looking back, he particularly underlines the difference between the grueling work schedule brought about by corporate pressure and the intense labor born of passion. Cain’s account once again reveals why Fallout holds such a special place.
