New designs shared by a Brazilian coffin and urn manufacturer quickly attracted attention in the gaming community for exactly this reason.
Nintendo-Inspired Coffins Go Viral
The Brazilian company Bignotto introduced coffin designs inspired by Nintendo characters on its social media accounts. The designs aren’t directly in the shape of characters; instead, the coffins, prepared in colors like red, green, and pink, have emblems on the front reminiscent of characters like Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, and Toad. The result is both absurd and highly pop culture-focused.
The company presents this with a rather humorous social media language. The use of the phrase “Game Over” in the posts and the videos, prepared with tones reminiscent of Mario music, further enhance the strangeness of the subject. This colorful and game-referenced approach to a heavy theme like death may not appeal to everyone, but we know that the internet quickly embraces such unusual ideas.
It’s also noteworthy that Bignotto isn’t venturing into pop culture-themed coffins for the first time. They’ve previously shared designs inspired by Barbie, Hello Kitty, and other characters. So the company consciously uses the idea of bringing personal interests into funeral products. While this approach may seem strange, for some people, saying goodbye to things they love in their lives can be meaningful.
Of course, the Nintendo side of things is a separate question mark. The designs don’t appear to be officially licensed, and the company’s sensitivity to intellectual property issues is well-known. Therefore, it’s questionable how long these coffins can be promoted in this way. Nevertheless, from a gaming perspective, this news is one of those strange but memorable examples showing how pop culture extends to the most unexpected places.
