Under a Rock Releases Gameplay Trailer
Under a Rock, a survival and exploration-focused game, has once again showcased its gameplay in more detail, this time through the bonds formed with creatures. Gameforge and Nordic Trolls released a new gameplay trailer and screenshots, focusing on taming, base life, and companion systems. Under a Rock seems to offer players not only the opportunity to survive in the wilderness but also to get to know the creatures of this world closely and embark on adventures with them.
Under a Rock Showcases Creature Taming System
The first system highlighted in the new trailer was the taming of wild creatures. Players will be able to catch creatures using Taming Boxes prepared with special baits preferred by each species. Tamed creatures will live in the player’s base, regularly leave species-specific resources, and can lay eggs when well-fed. However, this system will not operate entirely automatically; creatures can revert to the wild if neglected.
The companion system works through eggs obtained from tamed creatures. Companions hatched in the Hatchery will accompany players during exploration and combat. These creatures can be ridden, made to fight alongside, their inventories can be upgraded for carrying loot, and they can be directly controlled with commands such as Stay, Follow, Attack, Stop, Mount, and Dismiss.
These companions will not die permanently. Even if they fall in combat, they can regenerate on their own after the danger has passed. Furthermore, their basic stats such as Mobility, Ferocity, Lifeblood, Burden, and Hardiness will improve through use. Players can level up their companions and even personalize them by putting cute hats on them. Yes, it’s a survival game, but the hat-wearing creature detail is sure to win hearts.
The trailer also shows new creatures like the Curse Eye and the Giant Bee. The Curse Eye is introduced as a mysterious entity within the Crystal Caves, while the Giant Bee appears as a dangerous but intriguing creature in forest and meadow areas. Under a Rock is being developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While the release date is not yet confirmed, the new trailer suggests the game will make the exploration, base-building, and combat cycle more personal.
