Until Dawn Movie Has Wrapped
Until Dawn movie has got a big update, director David F. Sandberg posted on his Instagram account that filming on the movie has wrapped as of October 4.
Until Dawn Movie Shooting is Finished
An adaptation of Until Dawn was announced in January 2024, with Screen Gems and PlayStation Studios partnering on the project. Lights Out and Shazam!’s David F. Sandberg was confirmed to direct the film with a script written by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, The Nun). The 2015 horror game follows a group of teenagers forced to survive a night on Blackwood Mountain. Player choice forms the basis of the gameplay structure in Until Dawn, meaning a movie adaptation of its branching narrative is intriguing.
The update came from director himself, director David F. Sandberg posted on his Instagram account that filming on the movie has wrapped as of October 4. The director posted an image of a clapper board featuring Until Dawn branding, with the caption “We made it until dawn! That’s a wrap on [the] Until Dawn movie.” Filming for the video game movie began in August in Budapest, Hungary, and lasted two months. A partial image of the set was also revealed in Sandberg’s post, with the director appearing in the background of a very blood-soaked mirror, which hints at the horror to come in the film adaptation.
The Until Dawn movie features an ensemble cast that includes Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Maia Mitchell (The Fosters), Belmont Cameli (Along For The Ride), and Peter Stormare (Fargo). Of the cast attached, only Stormare’s role has been confirmed, with the actor reprising his role as Dr. Alan J. Hill from the game. Some fans hoped the movie adaptation would utilize more actors from the Until Dawn game, and bring back the likes of Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere. However, it appears the creatives have chosen to go in a different direction with a new cast.
With branching narratives and player choice forming such a large part of the Until Dawn experience, it raises the question of how this will translate into the film version. In the game, the choices a player makes can result in the death or survival of some or all of the characters, meaning a variety of endings are possible. It’s not been revealed how the Until Dawn movie will approach this situation, but given the nature of the film format, it seems like the movie will be forced to settle for one definitive ending.
Until Dawn is currently in production. A release date has not been announced.
