Will Xbox Stick to Its Multi-Platform Plan?
With Asha Sharma taking over at Xbox, the most frequently asked question was whether the company’s multi-platform approach would be permanent. The arrival of titles like Halo and Forza on PlayStation led to comments suggesting that Xbox’s classic “exclusive game” identity had completely changed. In her latest interview, Sharma directly addressed this debate, stating that there are no plans for a radical return to the old format for now.
Xbox Maintains its Multi-Platform Strategy for Now
Speaking to Windows Central, Asha Sharma said that there will be no short-term changes to the current multi-platform plan. Emphasizing their desire to reach players on different platforms, Sharma clearly stated that the Xbox brand will not revert to a closed structure catering only to hardware owners. This statement balanced the rising expectation in recent weeks that “exclusive games are making a comeback?”
However, Sharma hasn’t completely closed the door. His statement, “The plan is a plan for now, but it won’t always remain a plan,” suggests the strategy could be re-evaluated in the future. Factors such as sales data, user behavior, and hardware performance could pave the way for different decisions later on.
Sharma particularly emphasizes the hardware side. He states that Xbox needs to return to its roots and that building a strong hardware vision is a priority. This approach suggests the company doesn’t want to act solely as a publisher, but also aims to strengthen the console ecosystem.
Xbox remains committed to its multi-platform plan. However, this strategy isn’t “unchangeable.” Given the rapid transformation and competitive landscape of the industry, the next few years seem likely to define Xbox’s identity more clearly.
