According to new information, Microsoft may be planning to add a “buy now, pay later” model to the Xbox store, allowing players to spread their purchases over weeks or months. XBOX Preparing for Installment Payments
The new payment option was spotted on Xbox by a user named redphx. According to the shared information, a new payment model operating through PayPal and Klarna has appeared on the Xbox platform. This system could allow players to divide their payments for games or digital content into installments instead of making a single payment. Especially considering high-priced games and bundles, this model could become a more accessible option for some players.
PayPal reportedly offers players the option of splitting the payment into four interest-free, two-weekly installments or spreading it out over up to 24 months. With the Klarna option, the purchase amount will be divided into three parts. The first payment will be made at the time of purchase, and the next two payments will be taken 30 days apart. This structure could make the Xbox store more flexible than the classic one-time payment system.
However, it’s important to remember that this feature hasn’t been officially announced by Microsoft yet. For now, it’s only a preliminary step visible in the background of the website. Therefore, it remains unclear when the system will be available, in which regions it will be valid, and whether it will cover all products.
Microsoft’s statement that it will be looking for “radically different business models” for Xbox in 2026 makes such steps more meaningful.
