You Can Play Fallout Inside Fallout
The Fallout 4 modding community continues to surprise players even after all these years. This time, a new mod takes the Pip-Boy from being just a tool for inventory, map, and character management to a small, gameplayable device. And the most interesting part is that this system makes it possible to play Fallout while playing Fallout.
Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Can Now Run Games
Shared by RPGKing177 on Nexus Mods, this new mod aims to integrate different games into Fallout 4’s iconic Pip-Boy screen. The Pip-Boy is central to modern Fallout games, managing almost all the player’s core systems. Maps, quests, items, healing options, and character progression – the device was already an integral part of the game. This mod takes it even further.
One of the most striking examples of this mod is its ability to run The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind on a Pip-Boy screen within Fallout 4. According to the description, the system uses a specially modified version of OpenMW and connects the game to the Fallout 4 engine via a custom F4SE plugin. After inserting the Morrowind Holotape, players can open the Pip-Boy and play the classic RPG directly within the game.
What’s even more remarkable is that the mod developer also managed to run Fallout 1 on a Pip-Boy. Due to some file issues on the Nexus side, the Fallout 1 version is currently unavailable for download, but the developer demonstrated the system working with a video. Therefore, theoretically, it’s possible to switch to the first Fallout game via Pip-Boy while playing Fallout 4.
Mods like this show just how flexible and creative a gameplay environment Fallout 4 still offers. The installation process might be a bit cumbersome and might not work flawlessly for every player, but the idea itself is quite impressive. Playing Fallout within Fallout offers a fun and nostalgic experience for fans of the series.
